Compact display systems force the optical engine, waveguide or combiner, mechanical datums, electronics, calibration, and human viewing geometry into one tightly coupled package. The work is less about optimizing a single lens and more about controlling the interfaces that determine the viewed image.
In prior optical-leadership roles, PAO engineering leadership worked on near-eye display architecture, optical-module requirements, tolerance control, prototype bring-up, supplier qualification, and coordination between US engineering and Asia-based manufacturing resources.

Datums, fit, thermal stability, calibration, and repeatable assembly
Field of view, eyebox, eye relief, resolution, distortion, efficiency, and package volume compete with one another. A useful architecture makes those trades explicit before component commitments lock the design.
The observed image depends on how the optical engine, combiner, frame, and user's eye are registered. Mechanical datum strategy and calibration provisions belong in the optical error budget.
Supplier capability, measurement method, assembly sequence, and adjustment strategy should be understood while tolerances are still negotiable, not after drawings are complete.
